Choosing the Right Stone Countertops
Natural Stone
- Durable options like granite and marble
- Rich color variations and polish or honed finishes
- Requires periodic sealing and careful maintenance for marble
- Heat-resistant and scratch-resistant
Engineered Stone (Quartz)
- Made from crushed quartz and polymer resins
- Non-porous, low maintenance, no sealing required
- Heat and stain resistant, but use trivets for hot pans
- Available in a wide variety of colors and patterns

Do’s
- Use coasters under drinks, especially citrus and alcohol
- Clean regularly with stone-safe cleaner or diluted dish soap
- Seal your countertops as needed
- Allow cleaners to soak into tough spots before wiping

Granite, Marble, Quartz, and Quartzite
Granite:
- Natural stone with unique patterns and color variations
- Highly durable and heat resistant
- Scratch-resistant but can dull knives—use a cutting board
- May have tiny surface pits; sealing enhances longevity and luster
Marble:
- Luxurious appearance with soft veining
- More porous and sensitive to acids—requires sealing and extra care
- Prone to etching and staining, best used in low-traffic or decorative spaces
- Develops a natural patina over time
Quartz
- Engineered surface made from crushed quartz and resins
